Shane Kemplin

President / Sr Consultant; CSK Business Solutions

Shane Kemplin is a Desert Storm veteran (USAF), an avid golfer, a “gearhead”, a BSME, a Lean/6 Sigma Black Belt, an ASQ Certified Manager of Quality, Organizational Excellence, and a Father to 4 boys.

Near the end of his USAF enlistment (1992), Shane decided to cross-train into Quality Assurance.  For his final two years in the USAF, he audited maintenance processes to military regulations.  Little did he know how this would mold his career!

After serving his active-duty enlistment and transitioning into the US Air Force Reserves, he decided to finish his BSME while working full-time as a toolmaker at a local machine shop in the Dayton, Ohio metropolitan area.  As a toolmaker, he ran a lathe, milling machine and surface grinder while manufacturing tool & die components, holding tolerances as tight as + .00015”.  In June of 1995, Shane was involved in a head-on car accident where his recovery involved learning how to walk again.  After this accident, Shane was reassigned to QC Inspector where he ran a CMM (PCDMIS) and measured manufactured parts through CMM and surfaced plate inspections.

In 1996, Shane began his first job as a Quality Engineer in the automotive industry with Digitron, Inc.  His responsibilities included the development, implementation, training, and maintenance of a QS9000/TL9000 QMS, as well as the implementation and management of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, gage calibration and problem-solving methodologies across four (4) separate facilities.  In 1998, Shane was promoted to Quality Assurance Manager at Digitron’s sister company, Accurate Wire Harness in Springboro, Ohio.  At AWH, Shane was responsible for the development and oversight of the QS900 QMS Tier One automotive supplier that produced wire harnesses and plastic injection molded products.

From 2000-2011, Shane was the Quality Assurance Manager for CAM Manufacturing, where he was responsible for Quality Assurance and business support functions for an ISO9001 / IATF 16949 / AS9100 / ISO13485 manufacturer of CNC machined high-temp alloy products for the aerospace, automotive, medical and firearm industries. Responsibilities also included oversight of the QMS, NADCAP, GE S1000 compliance, APQP, PPAP, FAI program with OEM customers, Supplier Development, Configuration Management, and ITAR programs.  In 2007, Shane earned his Lean/6 Sigma Black Belt through GE Aviation and then managed CAM’s Lean / 6 Sigma Improvement and SPC Programs.

During Shane’s tenure at CAM Manufacturing, he was given the ability to consult with other companies (many being the suppliers and/or customers of CAM Mfg.) and grow his QMS consulting company.  He was privileged to work with companies like:

·        Systems 3, Inc. (Tempe, Arizona)

·        Accu-Grind & Mfg., Co. (Dayton, Ohio)

·        Certified Heat Treating (Dayton, Ohio)

·        Bilstein Shock Absorbers (Hamilton, Ohio)

·        Faxon Machining (Sharonville, Ohio)

·        Cold Jet, LLC. (Loveland, Ohio)

From 2012-2015, Shane was the Quality Assurance Director for RAM Precision Industries and RAM Medical in Dayton, Ohio.  He was responsible for Quality Assurance and business support functions for three (3) divisions which include aerospace, medical devices and canned tooling.  All three divisions manufacture precision CNC machined, ground and/or wire EDM components.  Responsibilities included oversight of product and systems quality, IQ/OQ/PQ Validation, Supplier Development, Configuration Management, Lean/6 Sigma program, SPC and ISO9001, AS9100, ISO13485, ISO45001, FDA, 21 CFR requirements & CE certifications.

Since 2015, Shane has provided guidance in the Aerospace Industry for AS9100 and FAA product/process development through AS9145 (APQP/PPAP) methodologies and has developed an overall perspective and holistic approach to reducing COPQ, targeting areas that have plagued the site’s productivity or throughput.

Today, Shane understands through his years of experience that, “it is not enough to do your best; you must know what to do, and then do your best!”  (W. Edward Deming quote)
